Join Clifton Park Historian John Scherer on a bus trip to explore the Erie Canal! First stop will be the Camillus Erie Canal Park where we will take a boat ride on a two-mile stretch of the original Erie Canal passing over the restored 1844 Nine Mile Creek aqueduct. Exhibits in the restored Sims Country Store feature maps, early photographs, and models of locks, aqueducts, and canal boats. After lunch on your own in Camillus, the group will head to Chittenango to tour the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum. At this restored Erie Canal Dry Dock, the group will learn how canal boats were made, visit a full size replica of a canal boat, and see a blacksmith demonstration.
