Check out these free, family friendly presentations at Historic Grooms Tavern!

The Tavern is located at the corners of Grooms and Sugar Hill Roads in Clifton Park (290 Sugar Hill Road). Parking is off of Grooms Road to the rear. Please enter the building from the back entrance. Presentations typically run 1-2 hours, and all have a chance to explore the Historic Tavern afterward. All programs are free, require NO registration, and are open to the public.

Bus Tour to the Erie Canal
Bus Tour to the Erie Canal

Join Historian John Scherer on a bus trip to explore the Erie Canal and celebrate the 200-year Erie Canal Celebration. First stop at the Chittenango Landing Canal Museum to see how canal boats were made, visit a full-size replica of a canal boat, and watch a blacksmith demonstration. After a lunch at Warner's Service Area (lunch on your own), the next stop is The Camillus Erie Canal Park, where we’ll take a boat ride on a two-mile stretch of the original Erie Canal, passing over the restored 1844 Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct. Exhibits in the adjoining restored Sims Country Store feature maps, early photographs, and models of locks, aqueducts, and canal boats.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED 

$60/person fee includes admission to both museums, and travel. Lunch will be on your own at Warner's Rest Area.

Bus will depart from Town Hall at 7:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Town of Clifton Park G.R.E.E.N Committee.
A Repair Café is a free community event with the goals of repairing broken objects to extend their life, keeping things out of landfills, and fostering an appreciation for the art of repairing things. Volunteer repair coaches will be available to help residents repair broken items free of charge. Bring your broken small electronics such as lamps, toasters, vacuums, coffee makers, wood items such as furniture and toys, mechanical non-electric items, clothing and textiles, and computers with problems, and bikes needing a tune-up. Our repair coaches will have you stay, watch, and learn how to fix your treasures and possessions.

Bike into History!

Join Clifton Park Historian John Scherer and Eric Hamilton of the Mohawk Towpath Byway on a bicycle ride along the Erie Canal towpath in the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve. Frequent stops will be made along the route to learn about canal history and features such as dry docks, locks and bridges. Distance about 8 miles on level ground. Helmets required.

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation staff will be present helping with fish identification, equipment, techniques and education about fisheries management, angling ethics and aquatic ecology. This is a free, public, sport fishing event with no freshwater fishing license required if participating in the event.

Fishing gear will be available to borrow during the event. You may bring your own poles if you have them.

Enjoy exclusive use of the party tent as your group enjoys splashing around in Locust Lane Pool. Our flume slide is a huge hit! Party host must be a member of the Town pools. Visit the Office of Parks and Recreation to book this Locust Lane Pool Tent. Applications are accepted beginning February 26, 2025. Applications are available here online.

Clifton Common Stage (Clifton Common Park, behind Senior Community Center)
Live music performances begin at 7:00pm and last approximately 2 hours
Family Shows begin at 7:00pm and last approximately 1 hour
All performances are located at the Clifton Common Stage (6 Clifton Common Blvd, Clifton Park) behind the Senior Community Center and next to the basketball courts. All performances are free, and require no tickets or registration. Shows may be cancelled due to weather, and may or may not be rescheduled. Visit CliftonPark.org for information on cancellations or rain dates. Starpoint Church provides refreshments, free of charge, at the Family Shows. Alcohol and tobacco products are not allowed on town property. Lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged, as there is no seating provided. Live music performances last between one and two hours; Family Shows are approximately 45 minutes long, and are geared to ages 3 - 10. All are welcome at all performances!

Bigfoot will hide at a new Town Park each Friday beginning 7/11, and will return to Town Hall on Monday mornings, ending 8/25.

10 families that find Bigfoot and submit a selfie via email (parksrec@cliftonpark.org) will win a tasty treat!
