"Everyday Oasis" Melanie Gonzalez Photography Opening – Saturday, May 23rd
"Everyday Oasis" Melanie Gonzalez Photography Opening – Saturday, May 23rd

Join us for photographer Melanie Gonzalez's garden spruce-up community event and photography print sale on September 3rd. Thank you, Melanie, for adding so much beauty to our Center this summer!

In her words:

"This collection is a deeply personal exploration of photography as a fine art medium with themes of New York State and architectural landscapes over a wide range of locations. My double exposures, created in-camera (Rock and Shadow/Piedra y Sombra series) are like a living archeology of urban decay, floral and pastoral glee, and experimentation with scale, color, analog processes and print outputs.

Local landscapes will take your viewership through New Paltz, Hyde Park, Wallkill, and various other places that make the Mid-Hudson Valley region a sparkling gem in the 11th state it resides in. Distinct tropical landscapes celebrate my exploration of Hispanic Caribbean heritage, mixed with photographic assignments in Brazil, Italy, Egypt, the West Coast, and beyond.

My 18 years as a practicing photographer has brought you this exhibition today, an exhibit that I hope sparks joy, pieces together inspirations, and reflects on shared history."

Light refreshments will be served.

Saturday, May 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30pm (Community Center).

PAST – English Country Dance – Saturday, April 4th
PAST – English Country Dance – Saturday, April 4th

From the Hudson Valley Community Dances website:

Elegant English Country dance grew in popularity in Britain during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in the 1500’s. The films Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility or Emma show this form of dance. English Country dancing came to North America with the colonists and was popular through the early 1800s. While Americans eagerly awaited new dance books from England, they also wrote their own dances and published their own dance books. At HVCD English Country dances, live music may be from ballads, classical music or operas dating back 500 years. Prompted by a caller, the dancers move in "figures", holding hands or by themselves. Dances are characterized by grace and elegance, eye contact, and the gliding steps of a bygone era.

Caller to be determined, live music by Tiddly Pom
Admission $15  |  Full time students $10

Saturday, April 4th from 7:00 to 10:30pm. (Community Center)
