Volunteer Opportunity: Pollinator Paradise Gardens
Volunteer Opportunity: Pollinator Paradise Gardens

Help maintain and beautify the Community Center pollinator garden! Activities can include mulching pathways, cutting back perennials for layered blooming, or weed identifying and pulling. If interested, contact Joanna at recreation@townofnewpaltzny.gov, and she will give more details.

The Pollinator Paradise Garden was installed in 2021 by the New Paltz Middle School Climate Club. Using only native plants, landscape designer Liz Elkin created the initial design. High schooler Nikola Salvestrini painted the mural. New Paltz Middle School art teacher Mary Jane Nusbaum assisted the students in making the original signs.

• Summer Solstice Potluck and Talk at the Field of Dreams / Sunday, June 21st, 5-7pm

Celebrate the summer solstice and Father’s Day with an outdoor community potluck, and enjoy some education on the side! After enjoying great community food, and conversation, you can learn about the pollinator garden coming to this site from Ashley Gamell of PollinateHV, a project of Partners for Climate Action (PCA). The New Paltz garden is one of seven other public demonstration gardens coming to the Hudson Valley this season. Gamell will share plant highlights, pollinator insights, and design strategies from PollinateHV's work at the intersection of pollinator conservation and ecological landscape design. This free event is a collaboration between PollinateHV of Partners for Climate Action, the New Paltz Recreation Department, Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley and New Paltz Garden Club.

Volunteer Opportunity: Community Center Compost Bins
Volunteer Opportunity: Community Center Compost Bins

Want to help our community lower our carbon footprint? Join our volunteer crew!

The bins are turned weekly to help create ideal conditions for microbes, speeding up the decomposition process, and resulting in odor-free and rich compost. If interested, please contact Joanna at recreation@townofnewpaltzny.gov and she will connect you with the volunteers.

Thank you to UCRRA for providing our compost bin signage! UCRRA Eva Barnett will return for another Bokashi Composting Workshop this fall, back by popular demand! Be sure to sign up for our Newsletter to be notified.

Update: SUNY New Paltz Volunteers Ben and Aiden are finished with their internship. They've done an incredible job keeping the compost turning. HUGE thank you!

Volunteer Opportunity: Pollinator Paradise Garden Signs
Volunteer Opportunity: Pollinator Paradise Garden Signs

Pollinator Paradise Garden needs new signs. Original signs were made by the New Paltz Middle School students and art teacher Mary Jane Nusbaum in 2021. Sadly, they have faded and weathered over time. Wood and paints can be provided, if needed. Please email Joanna at recreation@townofnewpaltzny.gov for more information.

Update: Lisa Morganstern-Perl of Cornell Cooperative Extension will be facilitating sign making with 4-H Lenape kids!
