The Newport Christmas Parade returns Sunday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. with this year’s theme: HOLIDAY HEROES!
Community organizations, businesses, churches, schools, civic groups and other participants are invited to join the parade and bring the theme to life. Celebrate the people and characters who make the season special — from hometown and everyday heroes to classic Christmas heroes and creative interpretations of your own.
The deadline to enter the parade is Friday, Nov. 20.
Parade participants will line up beginning on Verdun Street and will be directed to their assigned location on Railroad Boulevard. Lineup numbers will be provided on the day of the parade. Entries not participating in judging must be in line no later than 2:15 p.m. There will be no drop-offs on Railroad Boulevard; participants will be directed to the designated drop-off area.
Float judging will take place as entries pass the judges at the dignitary stand. Participants should not stop along the parade route except as directed at the dignitary stand so the parade can continue to flow smoothly.
For safety, animals may participate only when riding inside a vehicle and must remain inside the vehicle throughout the parade. The Newport Christmas Parade Committee reserves the right to refuse entries that are inconsistent with parade safety requirements.
And remember: there can only be one Santa Claus in the Newport Christmas Parade — the official Santa will make his appearance at the end of the parade.
